4 Reasons Why You Should Treat Yourself to a Massage ...
There are a thousand ways to relax - sports, reading, taking a bath, meditating ... wonderful! But there are good arguments why massage of all things is so important for our body and mind - and why it is so healing.

Done: You freed yourself up an hour or two of precious time just for yourself! And what are you doing now? Why should you choose a massage?

Give the mind a rest
You could also read, play computer games, or watch TV to relax.
Sure, I also like to read “just like that” from time to time. The thing is, when you read, play computer games and watch TV, you think that you are “switching off” because you are concentrating on something other than what is really happening in life.
But actually the opposite is the case! No matter what topic the mind is currently on - it continues to run at full speed.

Real relaxation, on the other hand, means being able to rest for the mind too.
Mindful touch, into which you let yourself fall, is wonderfully suited for this.
Farewell to the pressure to perform
You could also do sports to relax.
A great idea - especially if you sit in front of the computer a lot!
So much the better if you find a sport that you enjoy.
But maybe it is just a tiresome compulsory exercise for you? Or you put yourself under pressure to perform again, put on more and more weights, run marathons, whatever.

Massage can help to break these habitual patterns.
With a massage you can leave all duties, all pressure to perform at the door - it's only about yourself!
And your body and mind need it, like water, like food, like sleep ...

Relaxation takes practice
Real relaxation is damn difficult ... because relaxation means giving up control. That you don't have to do anything.

And that contradicts many habits that we have trained for a lifetime - especially in Germany 😛
And that makes real relaxation very difficult for many people - and massage is an ideal training.
During the massage you can just let the touch happen without having to do anything.
You get involved with touch and simply perceive what is happening - without having to perform, without judging yourself and others.
And that's one of the many reasons why massage is so healing.
If we allow ourselves to be touched, it helps us to break out of the tight corset of our habits, to free ourselves from pressure to perform, self-criticism and self-pity, and to learn to love our body - and therefore ourselves - again.
And that is the prerequisite for being able to enter into loving relationships with others.

Feel the body again - live more here and now
Perhaps you practice autogenic training, meditate, or the like to relax.
Wonderful! But you do not know that too: attention drifts so easily, thoughts continue to swirl, it is to despair ...
Nowadays a lot of people are very easy to distract and hang out in their world of thoughts all the time. We only see our body as an appendage that needs to be fed to make it work! We hardly feel our body anymore ... and it is no wonder that the thoughts seem all the louder and more distracting.
Fortunately, there are many ways to draw attention back into the body.
For me, the dance made a big difference - and the massage.
So mindful movement and mindful touch.

That's how I learned - and still practice - to bring attention back into the body. That brings so much more presence in the here and now! And with it also contact to yourself, to other people, to life ... I am so grateful to know these methods and to be able to pass them on to other people!
There are often massage workshops at Jivaka Castle, where you can also learn what makes touch really pleasant and mindful, and how you can share this gift with other people. You can find the next dates here:

When was the last time you treated yourself to a massage?
Or what's stopping you - and what would you need to get involved?
I look forward to comments!
